'Room for Improvement' challenge with Money Supermarket

Recently I was invited to take part in a challenge with Money Supermarket; they very kindly provided selected bloggers with £50 to improve a room, area or certain space in your home. There is A LOT that needs improving in the house that I'm in at the moment, but as it's rented and I'm planning on moving very soon, I decided I would improve the one area of my bedroom I really dislike, and search for the perfect dressing table I've longed for.

As you can see, before was not a pretty sight! This space was definitely about utilizing as much space as possible, on a hideous old £5 wooden trolley I had all the intentions of doing up when I first bought it. It took up a small space in my bedroom and obviously had everything on display, which meant it could end up pretty messy sometimes! It was functional, but just not at all what I wanted.

After spending almost four hours walking around all the second hand furniture shops I knew existed in Bolton and finding nothing, I'd almost given up hope! That is, until I went to Preston on Wednesday with my Mum and saw this in the window of a second hand store. My perfect, dream dressing table! I knew I had wanted an old, 1940s era art deco looking dressing table, but most of those are a dark coloured, heavy wood which wouldn't go with anything in my room, so I was incredibly lucky to find this one already upcycled into something more suitable. And even better, it had been newly reduced so was within my budget! It still cost me £45 which was a hefty lot of the money available, so I scoured around my usual charity shops and car boots looking for bits to add on it. Here's where I spent my money:

1940s dressing table: £45.
Silk flowers in a jar: £2 (TK Maxx).
1950s Blue Hyacinth talc: £1.50 (car boot).
1950s Bourjois powder pot: £1 (car boot).

Luckily I already had quite a few things I know would look lovely on the new dressing table, so I didn't have to spend too much on decorations. I am so, so in love with it, it looks so much cleaner, tidier and overall prettier in my bedroom and I know it'll be a piece of furniture I keep forever. I actually had to rearrange my entire room to get it to fit in, so the whole room looks so new and improved! Thanks so much to Money Supermarket for asking me get involved!

Lush Gorilla perfume album II launch party

Yesterday I attended the launch of some new lines of the Gorilla perfume range from Lush. You'll know if you're a regular reader that I am 100% a Lushie, and I love experimenting with all their different ranges but until now the perfume range is one that I haven't had any experience with. It was held at Kuckoo bar in Preston where we were led through all the perfumes and talked to about the inspiration behind each fragrance, hearing stories of how the creators came to create each one, and the personalities of them. We got to try each of the perfumes, passing around a bottle between us and testing it out on our skin to see how each scent develops with the person.

As well as this, there was a performance from Kiki deVille, a burlesque singer, and a few readings from some amazing poets, all which really added to the evening. Being held in a bar I of course couldn't resist having a few cheeky cocktails whilst wandering around, soaking it all in. I was also kindly given a little press pack and goody bag, all of which was handpicked for me which was such a lovely touch! They'd obviously put the effort in to really get my personality from what's on my blog and everything they gave me I absolutely love. This was actually the first bloggers event I've been to and I definitely don't think I'll be to one like it again; so much effort was put in to make it a successful evening, and I really enjoyed myself. The atmosphere created by the staff, perfumes and acts who performed was just wonderful. Thank you Lush Preston!

May favourites

dove leave in conditioner: £3.39 | ren clearcalm 3 night serum: 19.80 | l'oreal glamshine stain splash: £7.99 | lush the brightside bubble bar: £4.25 | barry m papaya gelly polish: £3.99

We all always say this, but monthly favourites time has flown by again! I haven't bought myself all that many beauty products or new bits and pieces recently (other than a slightly cheeky Boots order this morning, shhh!) so my monthly favourites are slightly old and some are sadly not available any more! The REN night serum is something I've mentioned a couple of times now, but definitely seems to be making the difference to my skin. It sinks in really quickly, has quite a nice scent to it and my blemishes are barely making an appearance since I've introduced this to my routine. The Dove leave in conditioner is something I've been using everytime I wash my hair too; it makes it more manageable, less tangled and feeling silky smooth!

Bathtimes are a rarity now it's no longer freezing temperatures outside, but when I have had one I can't stop myself using the brightside bubble bar from Lush. A citrusy sweet bar, this makes an incredible amount of bubbles with just a tiny little piece and is by far one of my favourite things to buy from Lush along with the other bars. I've still been loving my coral and peachy beauty bits, including the l'oreal glamshine stain splash in princess and the barry m papaya nail polish. Both are really long lasting and perfect products for spring and summer.

Other little bits I've been loving includes my Paris notebook from Paperchase. It's the perfect size and shape for my obsessive list making and I'm always finding myself scribbling away inside. My £1.99 charity shop skirt has also barely found it's way off my bum this month, it really is flattering and goes with so much of my wardrobe! What do you think? What are your favourites this month?
