The Skincare Series; Cleansers

After toners, cleansing is my favourite skincare step. Sure, I get those lazy 'i-seriously-cannot-be-bothered-to-take-my-make-up-off-but-i-know-if-i-don't-i'll-have-a-huge-spot-in-the-morning' days, but I think my cleansers are now prepared for pretty much everything the day might throw at me.

No7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser - This is an old, trusted favourite, but something that has been neglected recently in favour of a more thorough routine. I get this out when I'm having a lazy day, as one quick pump, a minute's massage into my skin and a rinse later, I am make-up free and good to go. It definitely improved the condition of my skin when I was using it more regularly, and I love how thick it is; I might have to dig it back out around Winter.

Caudalie Gentle Cleansing Milk - This is currently my second step after using the Una Brennan oil. I like it, but I'm not blown away. It is very thin and not very substantial, meaning you'd never be able to remove all your make-up with this alone. That said, I would recommend this for a more sensitive skin type, or if you're looking for a nice cleansing milk for the morning, this would be a good one. I've not seen any huge improvements in my skin since starting to use this, but it's nice enough!

Superfacialist Vitamin C Skin Renew Cleansing Oil - Aaaah, my favourite! This stuff has been a dream to use since I bought it a couple of months ago. It removes every single last scrap of make-up incredibly easily, and just feels gorgeous to massage into the skin. It has a really lovely scent too, and makes my skin look so bright and clear. The only downside is the lack of pump, so you have to be careful when pouring it out, but I've only used the smallest amount since buying.

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean - This is another that has been neglected recently, but I've started using as something a little bit thicker and an alternative to the Caudalie milk. I'm not entirely sure about how great the ingredients are in this, hence why I've steered away from it slightly, but when I do use it I actually notice my skin getting brighter and any blemishes I have clearing up. It's not one I'm obsessed with, but nice to use in the mornings.

Lush Herbalism - I've only had this around a week, but I've liked it so far. It's a good one for oily skin, and leaves my face looking very matte, clean, clear, and feeling very soft. It's a good exfoliator too, so only one I use 1-2 times a week. I can't say how in the long term it's affected me as I really haven't used it that much, but so far, I'm impressed.

Lush Dark Angels - Another I've only just got, but something I'm looking forward to using more. This one is a lot more exfoliating than Herbalism, and actually feels a little bit rough on my face, so I only use once a week. It has a lovely smell of liquorice and really seems to absorb all the grease and oil out of my skin. I'm having the mother of all breakouts at the moment, so I used this yesterday and by the morning, all my blemishes were dried out!

Do you use any of these cleansers? What are some of your favourites?

p.s. I'm sorry for the sporadic posting at the moment - I'm moving house in just over a week and pretty much still have the entire house to pack, eeeek! I'll try to get more posts up before I go but please forgive me if I'm a little absent!

Bits & pieces

A few new bits & pieces from around my home: a 1950s meakin plate with a new necklace, some new beautiful flats from Jonak, a couple new items to add onto my 1940s dressing table, and some more 1950s china. I'm leaning away from the bright, 'retro' look I used to love in favour of older, standout pieces.

This is the last little post of these I'll probably get to do in a while, as I'm moving! We finally found a home we love which accepted us, and we're moving in just over two weeks. I've already started packing up my kitchen, living room and bedroom, and I honestly can't wait. I have good and bad memories from this house, but I'm excited to start fresh in a new place.

September wishlist

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

001. I am crazy, crazy, crazy (cray cray, if you will) obsessed with these pastel jumpers from topshop! I pretty much want one in every colour, alas they are slightly pricey at £34 a pop for an acrylic jumper! I've heard there's very similar ones in Primark so I might have to bob down soon.

002. These shoes are so beautiful! I've always liked Pretty Ballerinas, and I cannot resist a good scallop, so these are kinda the perfect flat shoes for me! Even better that they're reduced, they may find their way into my shopping basket soon.

003. I recently went on a tart buying trip and this new salted caramel scent was definitely one of my favourites. It's a really lovely warming Autumn scent that's so perfect for this time of year. I've recently gone vegan so this will help me get my salted caramel fix, too!

004. Playing around on polyvore has instilled an obsession with Orla Kiely inside me. Sadly I don't think there will ever be a day I can spend so much money on a bag or item of clothing, but it's still nice to dream, hey?

005. I've been wanting to be a lot more feminine in my dressing recently. There was a time I'd live in skirts, but laziness has seen me in jeans a lot of the times I'm just nipping into town or to the shops, but I'm getting unhappy with it. I just feel nicer dressed up a bit! I've also been styling my hair in a 60s style half updo, and I really want some pretty bows to complete the look.

006. I'm not 100% sure why this is in here, probably for the packaging and how sweet it would look on my dressing table! Either way, I'm addicted to all the Bourjois products I've bought this year, and this looks like a great new product too.

007. The Lush store in my town finally closed down, and I am missing it so :( I like to look online too and see the 'retro' bits they bring back, and this 'Ma Bar' looks particularly lovely!

008. I really don't need to add to my polka dot skirt collection (six, and counting..) but this is just so pretty! Again, the price puts me off, but I keep noticing none of the sizes have sold out, so I'm hoping Topshop will be nice and put it in the sale soon!

What are you wishing for this month?

Pastel lovin'

peplum top, kitten sunglasses, earrings and floral skirt: asos

I don't know why I've done this backwards, but now we're approaching winter and everyone is wearing black, tartan and darker pieces, I've fallen in love with pastels. I've never been such a fan before; being so deathly pale I assumed they'd completely wash me out, but with my freshly dyed dark brown hair and rediscovery of 60s eye make-up, I thought it was time to give it a go.

I found this beautiful floral lace skirt on asos and really based the rest of the purchases around that - that's the only downside to only just discovering pastels, I have nothing to go with them! I thought a pretty peplum top would go really well with this skirt, and the bow just sold it to me. I've been lusting after these sunglasses for ages too, and I know, I know, the sun has well and truly disappeared, but I'm hoping for some beautifully sunny autumn days soon. I never see new clip on earrings in stores, so it was a pleasant surprise to see these online, and in the sale no less!

This outfit looks like it's made for spring, but I'm hoping I can make it work; I'm thinking of teaming it with polka dot tights, black mary janes and a camel jacket. Who's with me, are you a pastel winter wearer?

Life lately #5

Well, it has been a long time! It wasn't so intentional, my month long break from blogging, I suppose I just got busy with working and slightly forgot about my other little site! It's been a pretty busy month; I've been concentrating a lot on trying to make my website more of a success as most of my sales come from ebay at the moment (which brings along huge fees with it!) So I redesigned my website again, and I'm finally really happy with it now. I've also been buying lots of A/W stock including all the usual 50s & 60s clothes, but also branched out and bought lots of 'mom' jeans! I'm off to a student fair in Leeds on the 27th so I know they'll be popular there.

Other than that, my Mum got married! It was a really lovely day, aside from the sweltering heat, but I know she loved every minute. I also went off to a barn with a big group friends for a weekend which was ace, and I've been busy doing fairs the past couple of weekends. I've got one this weekend in Preston at 53 degrees too, and hopefully soon I'll be finally moving house and planning a little trip to Amsterdam for my birthday. So I'm still going to be a busy lady but I'll be trying my best to blog more often. I get a little unsure of my blog from time to time and lose a lot of inspiration, so I think a good brainstorm is in need to get my 'blogging mojo' back!
