Our Updated Dining Space

Cult Furniture Roma Chairs

One of the things I loved about our home when we originally went to view it was how open plan it was; the kitchen, dining space and conservatory are all essentially one room, and I loved the idea of being able to have all the family in one space, playing, cooking or relaxing. That said, it doesn't come without it's downfalls, one of them being how small the area is that we have for a dining table.

Our IKEA round table and 1960s mid-century chairs suited us well for three years, but recently I'd been getting a bit of an itch to give it a little revamp (see what it looked like when we first moved in here!) It started off with just a lick of grey paint earlier on in the year, and with a little help from the Cult Furniture Roma chairs we gave it a whole new look.

If you remember my home plans for 2018 post, I was really considering getting some sort of velvet or material chair, but let's face it, with Ada around they'd end up covered in spaghetti bolognese or tomato ketchup stains in no time. These kitchen chairs are a lot more family friendly, and I mean, c'mon, they have GOLD LEGS! What is not to love?

The rounded oak veneer adds a softer look to their industrial style too, and they really are surprisingly comfortable! I was actually torn between the gold and black legs for a while (they come in copper and a rustic metal finish too, if they're more your style) but I'm really happy I decided on the brass finish; they tie in really nicely with the rest of my decor, and add a little something extra to the look.

I finished it off by popping the jute rug I pinched out of Ada's room underneath, and changing the pot of the big rubber plant next to the table as the black one it was in didn't quite fit anymore. I also added a couple of the La Redoute Uyova wall planters to add a bit more greenery to the space, and I think I might add a bit more artwork too. I'm so indecisive when it comes to art and I go off things pretty quickly, but that blank space next to the planters is bugging me!

I also dug out these vintage sheepskin offcuts that I'd had for a couple years off a rug that was past it's best, so these add a little more padding to a couple of the seats and finish off the look well, tieing in with the grey surrounding walls.

Overall, I'm pretty thrilled with our new dining space! I'm more in love with a set of chairs than I ever thought I could be, but really, anything gold is going to be a winner with me.

What do you think of the new look? Are you a fan of retro dining chairs?

  9. I love this little dining space. It looks so inviting with those gorgeous chairs and the sheepskins. I immediately fell for those wall planters and clicked straight through but looks like they don't stock them anymore! Shame!
