Stripping It Back.

I don't know about you, but Winter for me results in A LOT of make-up, especially around the festive period. Bases are heavy, powder is a must, eyelids are glittered and I'm rarely seen without red lipstick. My skin doesn't seem to have thanked it for me though, and I'm struggling to get it back to the state it was around Summer, so I'm stripping back how much make-up I'm wearing to see if that helps.

I got a little sample of the Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation, which upon seeing 'light coverage' I assumed I'd hate, but it's actually pretty good! It's a buildable coverage so enough for me to cover up some scarring without pilling on the concealer, it's a good colour match for me and it lasts long enough throughout the day, too. It is quite a brightening foundation, but I still like to add a highlight on top, which of course is my No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter. Some cream highlights seem to just push around your foundation underneath but this doesn't, and applied with a Real Techniques Stippling Brush it applies really naturally to give a pretty glow.

Keeping it on the cheeks, I've been loving the NARS Unlawful blush* which is a pretty dusky pink with a hint of brown in, meaning it sculpts the face a little whilst it's at it. I know I said I've been wearing a lot of glitter lids, but I'm still using my Bobbi Brown Sand Palette, but not quite as intensely. I've been using either of the matte brown shades and just adding a tiny bit of glitter with one of their more sheer shades which creates a pretty, natural look without looking like you've made loads of effort.

Brows are something I just don't compromise on, and I've recently treated myself to the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in medium brown. It's a little harder to work with than the usual pencil I'm used to, but I'm determined to make it work, the results I've seen online look seriously amazing. My lips are in less than good condition too, so I'm using a couple of tinted balms, my favourite of which is Korres Mandarin Rose Lip Butter.

Have you been cutting down your make-up routine after Christmas?

  2. Ooh that Korres lip butter looks lovely. I've definitely been toning my makeup down since the holidays. I'm all about the neutral, no-makup makeup look right now. ^_^

I know what you mean about how bad your skin can get with so much make up, mine is feeling it. I have paired back on foundation and find using a mineral powder has helped a lot, that and a bit BB concealer or the Clarins one both which I love - I want to try the dipbrow but I don't have the patients, I am way too lazy ha ha :) x

It's definitely a good idea to vary days with a lot of heavy make-up, with days with light coverage, to give the skin a rest. You mention some really lovely products. I do like the sound of that foundation.

Just popped by to let you know i have nominated you for The Very inspiring Blogger Award. You can check out my post about it here: http://www.dandelionblue.co.uk/2015/01/the-very-inspiring-blogger-award.html#more

  12. Totally agree, I wore a lot of makeup in the past month and my skin is suffering! I've definitely tried to cut back and go down the minimal makeup route. The Korres lip butter looks lovely. I recently bought one of the tub ones and hoping I love it as much as the ravers do! The Benefit sample is adorableeee.

This January I've completely ditched my foundation and try to wear as little as makeup as possible, unless I have a party of dinner etc. I've heard so many good things about NARS blush though, lovely post x

  22. I'm usually such a black eyeliner and red lipstick sorta girl so this is all a bit odd for me, but I am really enjoying using a little less and going more natural.
